Scars of Kattan Kudy’s mosque killings
In August 1990, During the Night-time, while men and boys gathered for the Isha prayers in two mosques (Meera Grand jummah Mosque and Al Masjidul Hussainiyah).
Tamil rebels ambushed them in a senseless act of violence; the attackers shot them from behind, resulting loss of hundreds of innocent lives. This gruesome incident is one of Sri Lanka’s most tragic civilian massacres.
Even today, the echoes of that night continue to haunt the survivors; you can still see bullet holes in these mosque walls.
