Pidurangala Rock
Distance from Sigiriya: 3 KM
Pidurangala Rock is an impressive landmark located next to Sigiriya Rock (around 3km from Sigiriya) making it difficult to miss when visiting Sigiriya.
Many visitors choose to climb Sigiriya in the morning and then hike up Pidurangala in the evening to witness a breathtaking sunset from its summit. One advantage of Pidurangala Rock is that it is less expensive to visit compared to Lion Rock, with an admission fee of just 3 USD per person.
The climb can be divided into two stages.
The first stage
In the first stage, you will first pass through a small temple located at the base of the rock, which leads you to the trailhead. The trail is approximately 1 mile long, typically taking 30 to 40 minutes to ascend to the top.
Starting from the trailhead, you will climb a series of stairs until you reach the Pidurangala Cave Temple (a massive reclining Buddha statue believed to date back 1- 2 B.C.).
The second stage
This area is primarily unexplored and has no defined paths or stairs. To continue climbing, you must go beyond the Reclining Buddha to reach the second stage. Recommended for physically fit individuals, you have to navigate through steep boulders and narrow crevices.
Once you reach the top of Pidurangala Rock, you will be rewarded with a magnificent 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape and an incredible panoramic view of Sigiriya Rock itself.

Dambulla cave temple dress code

01. There are two entrances available to the cave temple. One is through the Golden Temple, which is for locals, and another is located near the ticket office.

What is inside the Dambulla cave temple
When you arrive at the temple complex, the first cave, called Divine King, is believed to have been constructed in the 1st century. It is renowned for housing some of the oldest frescos found within the complex, offering a remarkable glimpse into ancient artistry.
