Lion paw staircase
The Lion Platform at Sigiriya is Located on the rock’s magnificently designed structure’s northern side. In ancient times, during the 5th century, the Lion Platform featured an impressive brick gatehouse intricately carved and plastered to resemble a lion’s front. 02. Restrooms are only available at the main entrance and unavailable beyond that point.

History of Sigiriya
There are two versions of the history of this location.
One is a popular legend and myth that dates back to 5000 years ago, which claims that Ravana, the primary antagonist of the Hindu epic Ramayana, lived on this Rock.
According to this version, the site was once a palace made entirely of gold and stood at the top of the Rock. It is believed that Sita, the wife of God Rama, was held captive in this palace.
Another version of the story involves king Kasyapa, the eldest son of King Dhatusena’s concubine, taking over the throne by killing his father.
The actual prince, Moggallana, born to a royal heir and the rightful to the throne, had to flee to South India out of fear for his life.
Kasyapa then moved the capital from Anuradhapura to Sigiriya and built a palace on top of Sigiriya’s rock to protect himself from the returning prince.
Eventually, Moggallana did come back to Sri Lanka, waged war against Kasyapa, and emerged victorious. After his defeat, Kasyapa took his own life, and Moggallana moved the capital back to Anuradhapura.
