Ahmad bin Ali Stadium History and description

The Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, also known as the Al Rayyan Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in the Al Rayyan municipality.

The stadium hosts football games primarily. It is also the home of Al-Rayyan SC.

The stadium was named after former emir Ahmed Bin Ali Al Thani.

When the stadium was opened in 2003, there were 21,282 seats available. It was eventually demolished in 2015.

In the early months of 2016, a brand new stadium with a capacity of 40,000 was built in the identical spot where the old stadium formerly stood.

The renovation included the installation of a massive media facade that was covered with a membrane. It is presently used as a screen for projections, news, advertisements, sporting news updates, and information about forthcoming events and competitions.

The Amir Cup Final was the first event in the stadium on December 18, 2020.

Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium Design

However, the most striking thing about the stadium is its glowing facade. The facade of Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium displays elements of Qatari culture and Islamic architecture, family values, the beauty of the desert, flora and wildlife, and international commerce. These components are incorporated into a shield design that signifies power and togetherness.

Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium Legacy

Following the completion of the Fifa World Cup, the modular top deck will be taken down, and the seats will be repurposed into sporting facilities in Qatar.

The stadium will continue to serve as Al-Rayyan SC’s home ground.

After the World Cup, around 20,000 seats in the higher decks of the stadium will be given away to nations that lack sufficient sporting infrastructure.

Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium sustainability

From the beginning of development, sustainability has been one of the most important considerations.

Ninety percent of the materials used in the demolition of the previous Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium were repurposed in the building of the new facility.

The leftover materials are being recycled for public artworks.

Cutting-edge cooling equipment has been included in the stadium to guarantee it can be used throughout the year.
