One of the brand new stadiums that will be used for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar is called Al Thumama Stadium. The construction of the stadium first got underway in 2017, which took more than four years. The 49th Amir Cup Final, which featured Al-Sadd and Al-Rayyan, served as the formal opening event at Al Thumama Stadium on October 22, 2021.

Al Thumama Stadium design
The stadium’s shape is immaculate and expressive. Despite its football configuration, it is constructed on a circle (240 m in diameter). The stadium’s design was inspired by the gahfiya, a traditional woven headgear worn by men and boys across the Middle East. The gahfiya is a crucial part of the region’s traditional dress. It is also a sign of independence and dignity.
In May 2018, the stadium received the MIPIM/Architectural Review Future Project Award for its design.
Nearly 25,000 square meters of perforated panels cover the front of the building. The meetings are snow-white and have lace-like decorations. The roof of the arena is made of cables and a white membrane. It is about 35,000 square meters in size. The stadium stands 43 meters tall.
The auditorium has a total capacity of 40,000 people and is structured in two levels, with the levels being separated by a row of business boxes. The stadium’s cooling system (Advanced Cooling Tech) is the most intriguing component of the structure from an architectural and engineering perspective.
Several artworks by local artists may be found throughout the stadium.
Future of the stadium
The stadium’s tournament capacity of 40,000 people will be reduced to meet local needs and give developing countries better sports facilities. The remaining 20,000 seats in the arena will be used for football games and other sports. The upper stands of the stadium will be turned into a boutique hotel. There will also be a branch of a sports clinic.
The area around the stadium will be turned into a hub for the community with places to play handball, volleyball, basketball, and swimming. There will also be running and biking paths around the precinct, giving athletes of all kinds a place to go. Also, several retail and business units were built to make the area a busy place where people can work out and do other things.

Al Thumama Stadium location
Doha City Center is around 12 kilometres away, and Hamad International Airport is nearby. Also, about 7 kilometres south of Doha’s centre district (the Souq Waqif area).
How to get to Al Thumama Stadium
The red line’s Free Zone station is the closest metro stop to Al Thumama. You’ll take a shuttle bus for 20 minutes and then walk for 35 minutes.
Stadium Express Buses
This is the quickest route to the stadium. This service will run from designated Stadium Express Bus Hubs and transport spectators to the stadium within a minimum 35-minute walk. The bus service begins four hours before the match’s kickoff and ends one and a half hours
after the final whistle. One hour before kickoff, the last bus will depart from the terminal.

Stadium-to-Stadium Express Buses
During the competition’s group stage, a complimentary Stadium-to-Stadium Express Bus service is provided for ticketholders having tickets to matches on the same day. It allows direct transport between stadiums without entering Doha’s downtown.

Travelling your vehicles
A parking lot may be found near the stadium. These parking lots will open four hours before the start of the event and will remain open for one and a half hours after the game has ended. In addition, there will be parking choices for those with disabilities.
Taxi, Uber, aCareem
The location for dropping off and picking up guests at the stadium is at least a 30 minutes walk away. This area will become accessible four hours before the start of the match and will remain available for one and a half hours following the final whistle.
