History

Khalifa International Stadium, previously known as the National Stadium of Qatar, is a multi-purpose stadium in Doha, Qatar. It is a part of the Doha Sports City complex, which also contains Aspire Academy, Hamad Aquatic Centre, and Aspire Tower. It is named after Qatar’s former Emir, Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani.

Khalifa International Stadium was built in 1976 in Al Rayyan and has since undergone multiple renovations, most recently reopened in 2017. Seat capacity was also raised from 20000 to 40000.

Among the improvements are a new ultramodern design and two arches symbolising continuity and welcoming supporters worldwide. A roof covers the stadium seats; new cooling technology provides further temperature control.

Khalifa International Stadium Design

The two beautiful arches of Khalifa International are well-known. Under them, a vast canopy has been built to go with the innovative cooling technology in the stadium. Also, LED lights have been added outside the venue to enhance its appearance.

How to get to Khalifa International Stadium

You can take the metro to get there. One of the new Gold lines running through Doha’s centre stops at Station Sports City. The 15-minute walk from the station to the stadium should be easily possible.

This is the quickest route to the stadium. This service will run from designated Stadium Express Bus Hubs and transport spectators to the stadium within a minimum 30-minute walk. The bus service begins four hours before to the match’s kickoff and ends one and a half hours after the final whistle. One hour prior to kickoff, the final bus will depart from the bus terminal.

Stadium-to-Stadium Express Buses

During the group stage of the competition, a complimentary Stadium-to-Stadium Express Bus service is provided for ticketholders having tickets to matches on the same day. It allows direct transport between stadiums without entering Doha’s downtown.

Travelling your own vehicles

A parking lot may be found in close proximity to the stadium. These parking lots will open four hours before the start of the event and will remain open for one and a half hours after the game has ended. In addition, there will be parking choices for those with disabilities.

Taxi, Uber, Careem

The location for dropping off and picking up guests at the stadium is at least a 20 minutes walk away. This area will become accessible beginning four hours before the start of the match and will remain available for one and a half hours following the final whistle.

02. The Torch Doha

The famous Torch Doha was built in 2006 to honour the event in which Qatar hosted the 15th Asian Games. Its design was based on a gigantic torch.
